MARRIAGE

Marriage as Saton janam ka bandan is what people say when two people get married. But is it all that milk and honey as it is made out to be? The glorious days when our grandmothers had all the luck of getting married to responsible men are over. Today, men can desert, they can simply walk around without any sense of responsibility or they can even murder their better half. Most of them are successful in burying the deed too.

In the light of the present scenario, the lovely picture painted on marital relations is mere humbug and holds no water. As if  it is not enough that we have to tolerate so and so in this birth, we have the elders blessing that he may trail around with you even in the next few.

Women need to remember that they have allowed themselves to be led up the garden path and this only goes to prove that man as a social animal has been successful in making womanhood do what he wanted. Awareness of the changed legal processes and the vesting of equal  powers in the hands of the woman are socially instituted modern laws for the benefit of the fairer sex. One has to develop the courage to exercise it when the need demands. In such cases, she will feel herself really free from her cultural baggage that tries to put her in the rut of saton janam.
